Subject: [IML] QUEST: Deform tool - What is it?
Can anyone tell me what exactly a deform tool is, how it works, and
give me a simple example?
And to kill 2 birds ,why doesn't the electric texture work?
I have tried it on a sphere & a plane, rotated, moved and scaled the
texture axis, but it still doesn't work. It worked with Texture Studio
from a CU-Amiga cover disk though, but not Imagine 5.1a,5.1,5 or 4.

Hi Andy
Clae here
The deform tool will take a bit. I need to work something up to show you
some of the possiblities (I just used it to form a character).
Easy way to give you an idea of it; load a primative sphere then an menu
'object' 'add' 'deform tool'. Make sure the sphere is within the deform box.
Select the Deform Box then a multi-select sphere and go into pick/point
mode. Manipulate the deform box's points, just do anything to move them
around. Go back to pick object mode and select the sphere only. Select the
menu 'functions' 'deform tool' and when the requester comes up you'll see
something like 'DTOOL_3_3_3; click on it... and you'll see. Remember, deform
tool does smooth deforms.
But to the point of your electric problem; with the IFA it loads with the
mix/morph value set at 0.00. You need to change it to 1 before it'll work.
There are some other textures that load in that way. Remember, if a texture
isn't working check the mix/morph value to see if it loaded set to 0.

How do you mean 'form a character' if it's not too stupid a question?

I see.

I keep forgetting about that mix/morph thing.
Thanks for the info Clae, much appreciated.

Take a look at http://www.geocities.com/soho/gallery/2024/imgnatn.html . The
upper part to the 'Character' was done using the deform tool (put the deform
tool around the upper part of the 'sphere' only and stretched it). A minor
use but I could shape a torso from the deform tool as well as any other
organic shape; just didn't need more than the above at the time. Play with
it and learn what comes to your mind as to what can be done with it; it's a
good tool.
